SUMMARY: In January of 2014 the United States marked the 50th anniversary of Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty. The author of this article contends this “war’s” failure is due to its focus on the symptoms of poverty rather than the roots of poverty. A basic income guarantee, he contends, would attack the roots.
