Oregon State Senator Chip Shields submitted a proposal to amend the state’s constitution, to a land tax and dividend. The official summary reads, “Proposes amendment to Oregon Constitution to establish land-value lease fee imposed on real market value of land with proceeds distributed pro rata to residents of state. Establishes Resident’s Dividend Agency to administer collection of fee and distribution of dividend.” The bill was introduced on January 14, 2013, and referred to committee on Jan 18. No further action has been taken by the state so far.

Excellent !
the us government needs to do something to provide a basic income to people who are unemployed with no hope of ever getting a job again. they need to expand the social security disability eligibility to include the permanently jobless who have used up all other state and federal benefits they were entitled to.
to the contrary of a debt and deficit crisis that the vocal right wing wails about it seems more obvious we have a revenue problem because of the rich using loopholes, subsidies, and other tax dodges so that they get the romney/buffet coddled rich tax rate of 15%.
I hope the Oregon politicians are better than those in North Dakota.
Politicals denied North Dakota residents their citizen ownership income.

I prefer the proposal’s concept of a resident’s dividend to the more common concept of a citizen’s dividend.
Thank You Oregonians for taking a small but significant step in the right direction. Wonder whether you are also considering Public Banking like North Dakota?
Hope you join the USBIG. Also see my discussion paper #207 : A Global Citizen’s Manifesto: Basic Income as Basic Human Right.
