YouGov and the Huffington Post conducted a survey of 1000 US adults in early January of this year. Here is the question they asked about a basic income:
Would you favor or oppose expanding Social Security to every American, regardless of age, to guarantee a basic income to every American?
Strongly favor . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .18%

This is actually kind of great. Basic income is at the “crazy idea people are just starting to discuss seriously” stage that same sex marriage was at 20 years ago, and opposition is under 50% for everyone under 45.
The question itself is very important. Framed as a welfare payment, it is not surprising that 38% are strongly opposed. People instinctively fear that they have to pay more tax. As the table shows, more of the higher income groups are strongly opposed.
There is a very different survey result from China. The survey question is: do you support more widespread adoption of Sanya city’s universal citizen dividend? The result: 83% support, 17% don’t support. The survey is from 27000 registered users.
The survey result is near the bottom of this link:
