The next issue of Basic Income Studies (BIS) will be available soon. This academic, peer-reviewed journal has been in a period of transition. The new publisher is De Gruyter, which acquired the journals of bepress (including BIS) earlier this year. The editing of BIS is being passed from Karl Widerquist and Jurgen De Wispelaeare, who did an excellent job is this role since the inception of BIS in 2006. The new editors are Louise Haagh (University of York, UK) and James Mulvale (University of Regina, Canada).
The past issues of BIS continue to be accessible at no cost at https://www.degruyter.com/view/j/bis (by pressing on the “read content” button).
If you are involved in scholarly work on Basic Income, and would like to reach a broad audience of academics from many disciplines as well as policy experts and advocates, please consider submitting your manuscript to BIS.
The site is a bit confusing since it says both “open access” and gives price information for individual subscriptions.
Will all past issues up until volume 6 (2011) be freely accessible and all upcoming issues placed behind a paywall?
Our new publisher De Gruyter has told us that past issues and the upcoming issue of BIS will remain open access.
Details of the access agreement and development plans for the future of the Journal will be re-negotiated soon. Making a hard copy edition of BIS available on subscription is being considered by De Gruyter.
As Editors of BIS, we hold the view strongly that it is vital to maintain open access to the electronic version of the journal, given that it serves a diverse community of researchers, practitioners, and policy advocates.
Thank you for the reply.
Issue 1 volume 7 (jun 2012) is not open access online. Creating an individual account at de gruyter does not make a difference – each article download still costs 30€
