As reported in past issues of this Newsletter, Iran has recently started distributing a small basic income to all citizens who apply. The program replaces an efficient system of subsidies on commodities such as fuel and food. Rachel Godfrey Wood, writing for the International Institute for Environment and Development, has taken notice of the program and suggest that it could be a model for getting other developing countries off subsidies.
